Function:
1. Like other sulfonamides, the dosage of MOR-80 should be adjusted according to the type of rubber as well as the desired processing, curing, and final properties.
Under normal circumstances, in natural rubber tire products, the dosage of MOR-80 typically ranges from 0.5 to 1.5 PHR, while the sulfur dosage is between 2.5 and 1.5 PHR. If a higher ratio of accelerator to sulfur is used, the aging resistance and anti-reduction properties can be improved; however, the resistance to flexural cracking will significantly deteriorate. Therefore, a vulcanization formulation consisting of 1.5 PHR of MOR-80 plus 1.5 PHR of sulfur represents an ideal mix for vehicle tires. Alternatively, a portion of the sulfur can be replaced by the vulcanizing agent SULFASAN R. In this case, the formulation would include 0.6 PHR of MOR, 0.6 PHR of SULFASAN R, and 1.5 PHR of sulfur.
2. It is not commonly used in styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) products, because CBS or NS generally provide sufficient processing safety in SBR products. If a longer initial vulcanization (scorch) delay is required, MOR-80 can be used in the same amount as CBS—namely, 1.0 to 2.5 PHR of MOR and 2.0 to 1.0 PHR of sulfur. For natural rubber, using a high loading level of MOR-80 (2.5 PHR) combined with a low loading level of sulfur (1.0 PHR) can improve aging resistance.
3. Like CBS and NS, using DPG, thiazole accelerators, or dithiocarbamate accelerators can shorten the vulcanization time and improve processing performance.
4. MOR-80 is an excellent accelerator when used with EPDM that requires extended processing safety performance. A mixing ratio of 3.6 PHR of MOR-80 to 1.5 PHR of sulfur can be employed for dockside collision and abrasion-resistant products that demand rapid vulcanization.
Application:
1. Solubility: Easily soluble in benzene, soluble in acetone, ether, and carbon tetrachloride; partially soluble in naphtha; slightly soluble in ethanol; insoluble in water.
2. Color-changing property: At high concentrations, it causes slight fading in light-colored or white products but does not cause staining.
Storage conditions: Store in a cool and dry place; shelf life up to 1 year. The product must be stored sealed in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area, and protected from direct sunlight.
